Last month, Chess4Girls partnered with CEDAR (Centre for Education, Development, Action and Research), an NGO in Tamil Nadu, India. CEDAR supports children from marginalized and excluded communities by offering a variety of programs—from photography and art to now, chess.
Two months ago, representatives from Chess4Girls traveled to India and began teaching chess to a group of children in Lingavadi. Later, we visited CEDAR’s main center in Madurai, where we worked with students from both Lingavadi and Kovalpatti—some of whom already knew the basics of the game. While at the center, we organized a small chess tournament, and the top 20 winners were recognized for their skill and potential.
Although Chess4Girls is based in the United States, our connection with these students doesn’t end there. We are continuing our support by funding weekly chess coaching for the top 20 students. As they grow and improve, we will also sponsor tournament opportunities to help them take the next steps in their chess journey.
These children are smart, passionate, and full of potential. If you'd like to support their growth and help us expand programs like this, please consider donating to Chess4Girls.
Together, we can help every girl make her move. Here is a small video of what we did there posted on our instagram. ♟️💜
