Empowering Underprivileged Children in India With CEDAR

Chess4Girls recently partnered with CEDAR (Centre for Education, Development, Action and Research), an NGO in Tamil Nadu, India that serves marginalized children through programs ranging from photography and art to chess.

Two months ago we began teaching chess to children in Lingavadi. We then ran sessions and a small tournament at CEDAR's Madurai center with students from Lingavadi and Kovalpatti. Lessons were taught in Tamil, so every student could follow along, and covered piece movement, capture and notation.

The top 20 students were recognized. Chess4Girls is funding weekly coaching for these students and plans to sponsor tournament opportunities as they progress.
